Mahiliou: volunteers detained for stickers against death penalty

Several volunteers were detained for distributing stickers on 8 October, on the eve of the World Day Against the Death Penalty, 10 October.

According to one of the activists of the campaign against the death penalty, Uladzimir Chumakou, two youngsters were detained at about 5.20 p.m. after a telephone call of some “vigilant” citizens and guarded to the Leninski District Police Department of Mahiliou. A report under Article 21.14, part 2, “Violation of the urban maintenance rules”, was drawn up against them as a result of the inquiry which lasted for almost five hours.

According to the human rights defender Barys Bukhel, the detainees are most likely to be fined, as far as they were released till trial. The maximal sum of the fine is 2.5 million rubles (about $290).
