Polish human rights defenders ask Lukashenka to pardon Kanavalau and Kavaliou

The Polish Helsinki Human Rights Foundation and the initiative “Horizon – against the death penalty” addressed Aliaksandr Lukashenka with an appropriate appeal.

According to them “such a humane step would be worthy of the country governed by Mr. Lukashenka”. The organizations are of the opinion that pardoning of Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavaliou, held liable for the terrorist act in the Minsk metro, would be a sign of strength, not weakness for Belarus.

“We assure victims of the terrorist act and you, Mr. President, that we condemn this act, but think that the death penalty contradicts to the fundamental human rights,” reads the appeal.
