Sviatlana Chornaya continues hunger-strike against death verdict to Kanavalau and Kavaliou
The woman has been on a hunger-strike of protest
against the death sentence to Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavaliou since
December. The youngsters had been sentenced to death on charges of committing a
terrorist act in the Minsk
metro on 11 April 2011.
In her letter to A.Lukashenka the woman expressed doubts that the court had
really managed to prove the guilt of the convicts. “Being a citizen of the Republic of Belarus,
a part of its people, I ask you not to allow the execution of Kanavalau and
Kavaliou, to which they were sentenced on 30 November by the Supreme Court of
the Republic of Belarus. Our country is a civilized
state. But somebody intends to execute two young guys, whose guilt raises
doubts among a considerable part of the population of my country, including
victims of the terrorist act for which the prisoners were convicted,” reads her
letter.
