Liubou Kavaliova: "We always tell Uladzislau that we will make everything possible to save him from unfair punishment"
As it became known on 14 March from the state TV,
president Lukashenka refused to pardon Uladzislau Kavaliou and Dzmitry
Kanavalau. Several days of painful uncertainty ended with a terrible blow for
their relatives.
Bear in mind that the Presidential Commission of Pardons didn't tell its
verdict even to the mother of Uladzislau Kavaliou. On finding out who wanted to
talk to him the commission's member Mikalai Samaseika simply put down the
receiver.
"I wanted to hear the sentence to my son whom I consider innocent of the
terrorist act and unfairly punished for it... During the meetings my daughter
and I always tell Uladzislau to hope for the better, and that we will do
everything possible to save him from unfair punishment," says Liubou
Kavaliova.
The death convict Uladzislau Kavaliou filed a pardon petition with Aliaksandr
Lukashenka in December 2011. The mother emphasizes that her son didn't plead
guilty even in this petition:
"The explosion which had taken place in the Minsk metro on 11 April concerns many
Belarusians. I sincerely pity the victims, each of whom experienced a deep
grief. However, I have no relation to these explosions and didn't help to
conduct them. During the investigation I was pressurized into giving testimonies which were demanded from
me. I gave a true testimony at the trial, not being afraid to tell the truth. I
ask to pardon me and release me from criminal punishment. My conscience is
clean before myself, before You, before the society and before icons."
