Mother of executed terrorist keeps demanding to regain son’s prison notes

Mrs. Liubou Kavaliova, mother of Uladzislau Kavaliou executed for plotting a blast in Minsk metro in April 2011, keeps demanding to return her son’s prison notes.

On 31 August, Mrs. Kavaliova submitted a complaint to Prosecutor General of Belarus Aliaksandr Kaniuk, after her previous appeals were dismissed by the KGB.

“On 29 August, I wrote to head of the KGB prison, trying to find out where Uladzislau’s prison notes are. I did not receive them together with other things after his execution. I twice (on 4 June and 13 July) urged the KGB head Vadzim Zaitsau to find out where the notes my son took to the trial are. I did not receive a single reply from Vadzim Zaitsau,” says Liubou Kavaliova.

Under Art. 40 of the Constitution, Liubou Kavaliova should have received written replies to her appeals. They also should have been issued in due time. However, the KGB head seems to show total disrespect for the Constitution, says Mrs. Kavaliova.
