Journalists are invited to a press-conference on the World Day against the Death Penalty
The press-conference
will be held with the participation of the campaign “Human Rights
Defenders against the Death Penalty” Valiantsin Stefanovich and
Andrei Paluda, as well as the relatives of death convicts.
Comments
will be given on the latest events related to the issue of the death
penalty in Belarus.
On 10 October the World Day against the
Death Penalty is marked. Since 1997 Europe has actually been a
territory free from the death penalty. Belarus is the only Belarusian
country which is not a member of the Council of Europe. The main
obstacle for its accession to this body is the ongoing use of the
death penalty in the country.
The press-conference will be
held on Thursday, 10 October, at 12 a.m. at the office of the HRC
“Viasna” in Miarzhynski Street, 8-26 (metro station “Park
Chelyuskintsev”).
