Supreme Court leaves death verdict to Yuzepchuk in force

On 2 October the Supreme Court of Belarus considered the cassation complaint on the criminal case of Vasil Yuzepchuk who had been sentenced to death by Brest oblast court on 29 June. The complaint was turned down.

30-year-old Vasil Yuzepchuk was sentenced to execution for serial murders of elderly women. His associate, 28-year-old Siarhei Huchenka got life sentence, which he will spend in a high security prison.

The murders were committed with the aim of robbery. Five of the killed women were more than 70 years old.

Another death verdict was issued by Minsk oblast court on 17 July. 25-year-old resident of Salihorsk Andrei Zhuk was sentenced to death for the murder of two workers of Balshavik-Ahra enterprise who had been carrying the money for paying the wages to other workers of Balshavik-Ahra.

Bear in mind that verdicts of the Supreme Court can be reviewed by the College Board of the Supreme Court. After this a convict has another chance – to address to the presidential pardon commission. There has been only one case so far when the commission made a positive decision on a convict’s address.
