Future death convicts?
The Mahiliou Region Court announced a break till 14 September in the trial of Ihar Mialikau and Aliaksandr Sychou who had committed a number of violent crimes on the territory of the Mahiliou region operating in a gang. They can be punished with death. The head of the gang, the founder of the Belarusian republican civil association of jujitsu and self-defense, escaped the trial as he had suddenly died several months ago.
The defendants received charges under Article 139, part 2 (killing of two and more persons), Article 207, part 3 (brigandage in a criminal group), Article 212, part 4 (theft of property with the use of computer equipment or by modification of information), Article 286 (gangsterism) and Article 295, part
4 (unlawful operations with firearms).
In summer 2009 the founder of the Belarusian republican civil association of jujitsu and self-defense established a gang together with two coaches of this association, citizens of Homel and the Homel district. The criminals conducted a series of violent assaults on the roads of the Mahiliou region with the use of firearms. Their victims were predominantly drivers from foreign countries.
For instance, in August 2009 they killed a citizen of the Russian Federation and stole his car, valuables and money. Two weeks after it they killed two citizens of Moldova and another Russian, whose car they stole as well. Some more crimes were also revealed in the process of investigation.
