On 6 December the UN Human Rights Committee received an individual communication by Aleh Hryshkautsou, sentenced to death on 14 May 2010. The death convict argues that his right to fair trial provided by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights was abused by the Belarusian judiciary. The communication also demands to apply measures of interim protection and suspend the execution.

The communication was registered by the Committee under # 2013/2010.

According to human rights defender Raman Kisliak, who assisted Mr. Hryshkautsou in submitting the complaint, ‘the criminal case was not considered by an unbiased court, which could be clearly seen from subjective statements of judges during the trial.’ The activist also claims that the convict’s presumption of innocence was violated, sue to a number of biased statements of the trial participants before the verdict.
