Victims of metro blast aren’t issued with copies of court verdict

On 12 December Inesa Krutaya, a victim of the 11 April explosion in the Minsk metro, applied to the Supreme Court with the request to be issued with a copy of the verdict to the alleged perpetrators of the terrorist act, Dzmitry Kanavalau anad Uladzislau Kavaliou. However, she still hasn’t received any answer.

“This is a violation of the law”, commented the head of the legal commission of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, Hary Pahaniaila. “The case is not secret, that’s why victims have the right to receive a complete version of the verdict – all 114 pages”. He also advised the victims to file personal appeals with the head of the Supreme Court in order to catalyze the process.

Inesa Krutaya wanted to file a review appeal against the verdict to Kanavalau and Kavaliou, but cannot do it without getting a full copy of the verdict. Meanwhile, the convicts have just one day left to file pardon appeals. According to deputy Prosecutor General, Aliaksei Stuk, only one of them, Uladzislau Kavaliou, has used this opportunity so far. His mother, Liubou Kavaliova, also filed a pardon appeal with president Lukashenka. However, she hasn’t received any answer yet. She also visited the Presidential Administration to make appointment for a personal audience with Aliaksandr Lukashenka.
