Andrei Paluda: “Unfortunately, Belarus authorities totally disregard European Parliament’s resolutions”

Today, the European Parliament is expected to consider the issue of the death penalty in Belarus, Egypt and Japan. Representatives of the campaign “Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections” are said to closely monitor Europe’s reaction to Belarusian events.
“We are looking forward to the European Parliament resolution on Belarus. It is of especial concern that the issue is to be considered in the context of the Minsk underground bombing criminal case, which resulted in two death sentences to Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavaliou”, says the campaign’s coordinator Andrei Paluda.
“It is crucial that the issue of the death penalty in Belarus is being discussed on this high level, raising concern of European politicians. On the other hand, we can say that the Belarusian authorities do not pay much attention to the European Parliament’s resolutions. And there are no major hopes that the resolution may affect the situation”, says Mr. Paluda.
