10 days of arrest for stickers “No to death penalty!”
On 24 April Ihar Shalai was detained near the building
of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Minsk
for posting stickers “No to death penalty!” and guarded to the Savetski
District Police Department by two police officers.
Mr. Shalai was charged with disorderly conduct (Article 17.1 of the Code of Administrative
Violations).
On 25 April Ihar Shalai was tried by the Savetski District Court of Minsk. Testimony
was to have been born by police officers Anapenka and Baryseuski. However, one
of them didn’t come to the trial, allegedly because of illness. The other
stated that after the detention Ihar Shalai started behaving aggressively, used
obscene language and didn’t react to remarks.
Ihar Shalai stated that the trial that he was a believer and never used obscene
language. Nevertheless, he was sentenced to 10 days of arrest, which he served
in the delinquents’ isolation center in Akrestsin Street.
