Bahdanava, Krasouskaya and Kavaliova call on the Belarusian authorities to return the body of Uladzislau Kavaliou (video)
On 30 November, the first anniversary
of the delivery of the death verdict to Uladzislau Kavaliou and
Dzmitry Kanavalau, Iryna Bahdanava, Valeryia Krasouskaya and Liubou
Kavaliova urged the world community to unite and demand the return of
Uladzislau Kavaliou's body to his family.
The video appeal of
the three woman was issued within the framework of the campaign
“Return the Body”, started by Liubou Kavaliova at the
web-resource change.org.
In her appeal Liubou Kavaliova asks
to help her in receiving the body of her son from the Belarusian
authorities. Valeryia Krasouskaya shares her story, expressing the
hope to find about the fate of her father someday. Iryna Bahdanava,
in her turn, applies to the world community with the request to sign
Liubou Kavaliova's petition
and do everything possible to make the Belarusian authorities release
political prisoners and refrain from getting new ones.
“Return
the body” campaign started on 4 October, when corpse bags with
living people inside appeared at railway and metro stations in five
cities in the Netherlands. The flash-mob was organized by the Dutch
students to support Liubou Kavaliova in her struggle for the return
of the body. The following day the campaign was officially presented
by the Belarusian “Free Theater” together with Liubou Kavaliova,
after the premiere of the “Trash Cuisine” play in Amsterdam,
telling about the horrors of the death penalty all over the
world.
On 30 November 2011 the Supreme Court issued the death
verdict for two Vitsebsk dwellers who were found guilty of terrorist
– Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavaliou. The verdict was
announced by the first deputy head of the Supreme Court Aliaksandr
Fedartsou. According to the sentence, Kanavalau and Kavaliou were
found guilty of committing a terrorist act at the metro station
“Kastrychnitskaya” in Minsk on 11 April 2011 and a terrorist act
on the official Independence Day feast on 3 July 2008 in Minsk. The
court sentenced the both defendants to death.
