New death verdict issued in Hrodna
On 5 August 2012 a
brutal double murder took place in Hrodna on 5 August 2012. A Vileika
resident, born in 1990, killed his wife, a resident of Zhlobin and a
friend of hers out of jealosy in a hostel apartment. He dismembered
the corpse of the man and threw it in the trash bin, except for the
head, which he took in the bag with him. He was detained with the
head by the police in a train in Vaukavysk.
The youngsters
got acquainted through the Internet and were interested in occultism.
However, the investigation found no evidence that the murder was
connected to occult practices. The resident of Vileika was recognized
as psychically sane by the forensic expertise.
On 12 June the
Hrodna Regional Court found the defendant guilty under Article 139
Part 2, paragraphs 1 and 6 (the murder of two persons, with
particular cruelty) Article 205 Part 1 (theft); Article 347 Part 1
(abuse the corpses) and Article 378 (theft of personal documents) and
sentenced him to death for the aggregate of the offences. The case
was tried by Judge Anatol Zayats.
The sentence can be
appealed at the Supreme Court within 10 days.
