“Last Dawn” rock concert held in Bialystok
In the evening on 5
October Bialystok hosted a rock concert "Last Dawn" , an
online broadcast joined by viewers from around the world . The
participants of the musical project advocate discontinuing the
practice of the death penalty in Belarus.
"Last Dawn "
is not just a concert, in their presentation the creators of the
project in combined various art forms – music, singing, sand show
and video installations.
The concert was attended by
well-known Belarusian musicians – Liavon Volski, Aliaksandr
Pamidorau, Zmitser Vaitsiushkevich, Hanna Khitryk, Nasta Shpakouskaya
and Ales Dzianisau, who were accompanied by an orchestra.
A TV
version of the performance was shot and will be published on
DVD.
The coordinator of the campaign "Human Rights
Defenders against the death penalty in Belarus" Andrei Paluda
noted that it is important to inform the public about the death
penalty. "Our main aim is to make people think and of course, it
would be good if the people changed their mind in favor of
abolition
of the death penalty. Belarus is the only country in Europe where
people are still executed by shooting.”
Liavon Volski, when
asked how the project "Last Dawn" will affect the existence
of the death penalty in this country, replied: "The concert can
influence the public opinion, our people are quite
bloodthirsty,
and many of them crave the mandatory punishment of offenders; even if
it is likely that the alleged criminals are innocent."
The
project "Last Dawn" was organized with the support of the
Human Rights Center
"Viasna" and is dedicated to the
world day against the death penalty, marked on 10 October.
