Mahiliou human rights defenders hold viewing of topical documentaries against the death penalty
In the evening of 10
October about 30 citizens, concerned about the issue of the death
penalty, gathered at the community center “Kola”
(“Circle”).
Human rights activists Aliaksei Kolchyn and
Barys Bukhel held a short lecture on the death penalty, after which
the public viewing of the documentaries “Departed on Sentence”
and 'Don't Take Life” was held.
The human rights defenders
drew the statistics, according to which in 2012 three Belarusian
citizens were sentenced to death. Despite the fact that much more
people were eecuted that year in some other countries (about 1000
people China, 314 – in Iran in 129 in Iraq) they alleged that evil
can not be measured by the number of convicts.
A discussion
was held after the viewing of the movies. The event was timed to the
World Day against the Death Penalty.
