During the several last years actions against the death penalty have been held in Minsk within the frames of the campaign "Cities for Life, Cities against the Death Penalty" on the last day of November.

This global campaign
was initiated by the Catholic community. Well-known architectural monuments are illuminated by candles or spotlites in large cities all over the world. Usually, such actions are held in about 1,500 cities. In Rome, special reflectors pointed lights on Coliseum.

In Belarus, a country where the death penalty is still used, candles are lit near St. Symon and Alena Church in Minsk. Activists of the campaign “Human Rights Defenders against the Death Penalty” lit candles there on 30 November this year as well.
