October 9, Baranavichy human rights defenders and social activists continued their participation in the week against the death penalty. Human rights activist Siarhei Housha noted that the Baranavičy City Executive Committee traditionally did not allow for social and political actions, including those devoted to the International Day against the Death Penalty and International Human Rights Day.

So as not to waste time on legal procedures,
the activists did not submit a written application to the executive committee for permission to hold a rally. Instead, opponents of the death penalty walked through the city in two groups, met with people and handed the leaflets "Why we are against the death penalty". People gladly took the leaflets and eagerly debated on the issue of the death penalty in Belarus and abroad. At the same time, the social activists pasted on the informational pillars huge posters calling for the abolition of the death penalty.

“Despite the fact that crime
rate does not decrease and there is a war in the neighbouring Ukraine, we have tried to convince people that the death penalty has no place in a democratic society”, said human rights activist Siarhei Housha.
