On 14 September the Mahiliou Region Court pronounced the verdict to Ihar Mialik and Aliaksandr Sychou who had been found guilty of committing a series of violent murders on the territory of the Mahiliou region. The former got a life sentence and the latter was sentenced to death. Read more…
Future death convicts?
The Mahiliou Region Court announced a break till 14 September in the trial of Ihar Mialikau and Aliaksandr Sychou who had committed a number of violent crimes on the territory of the Mahiliou region operating in a gang. They can be punished with death. The head of the gang, the founder of the Belarusian republican civil association of jujitsu and self-defense, escaped the trial as he had suddenly died several months ago. Read more…

299 death sentences have been executed in Belarus since 1985, the BelaPAN news agency reports. The figure is based on the agency’s own estimations and the data provided by the Amnesty International human rights group. However, the official number of executed has not yet been made public. Read more…

Two more death sentences passed in Belarus
On 14 May Hrodna Regional Court sentenced two local residents to death for a triple murder, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports. Judge Piotr Bandyk found 29-year-old Aleh Hryshkautsou and 28-year-old Andrei Burdyka guilty of committing three murders, robbery with violence and arson back in October 2009. Read more…
